Steven Donaldson trial told key witness was given death threat by Kirriemuir killers

Key witness Sam Wilkie, who gave evidence that helped seal the trio’s fate, had a “narrow escape” according to friends.

The Steven Donaldson trial heard how killers Kirriemuir killers found guilty of 'savage and depraved' attack on Steven Donaldson threatened to murder Sam with an axe after a row over a former girlfriend spiralled dangerously out of control.

Sam’s relationship with the girl ended in August 2017 when she began seeing Dickie.

The following January, her car was vandalised, prompting Dickie and Davidson to make threatening calls to Sam.

When prosecution lawyer Ashley Edwards QC asked Sam to recall what Davidson said, he replied: “Callum was shouting, ‘You’re getting killed. I’m gonna kill you when I see you.’”

In another call, Davidson allegedly told him: “I’ve got an axe. I’m going to find you s***ebag.”

Sam’s friends have since gone on social media to praise him for giving such brave testimony.

Kylie Bowie wrote: “I’m glad you got up on that stand and had your say. You were a lucky lad. Unfortunately for Steven, he wasn’t as lucky as you are.

Steven Donaldson was taken to Kinnordy Nature Reserve near Kirriemuir, Angus, where he was brutally killed (PA)

“But you getting up there shows just what they are capable of. Well done, Sam.”

Melissa Richardson added: “A narrow escape you’ve had by the looks of things. Well done for standing up. Even jail is too good for those evil b*****ds.”
