Steven Donaldson murder accused said plan was to 'rough up' alleged victim

A murder accused told a trial his alleged victim was to be “roughed up” so he would “back off” from demanding money his ex-girlfriend owed him.

Steven Dickie, 24, said his best friend Callum Davidson, 24, came up with the plan to assault Steven Donaldson, 27, after Tasmin Glass, 20, claimed her ex had been giving her “hassle” over the cash.

Dickie told the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday that Glass went to meet offshore worker Steven at the Peter Pan play park in Kirriemuir, Angus.

He said he and Davidson went with her but got out of her car to walk the last bit because Glass “didn’t want the boy to see us”.

Dickie claimed when they arrived on foot, Davidson “lunged in the driver’s window” of a white BMW.

He said Glass sped off, while he headed back to Davidson’s house.

Dickie said his friend got back after an hour and later told him that “he had given the boy a hiding”.

Dickie, Davidson and Glass, all from Kirriemuir, deny murdering Steven, of Arbroath, between June 6 and June 7 last year.

The trial continues.
