Steven Davis provides Rangers contract boost as veteran rubbishes retirement worries

Veteran midfielder Steven Davis insists he has no thoughts of quitting playing this summer and has no worries about his contract situation.

The Rangers star's deal is up at the end of this campaign and at 36, there were fears that he might look to go out on a high.

He's still a vital part of Steven Gerrard's team and has played 40 times for the Light Blues this season, and the Ibrox boss spoke about his hopes of holding onto him earlier this year.

Davis insists nothing will be decided until the league is wrapped up and his sole focus is on the job at hand, but he did confirm he is highly unlikely to hang up his boots.

And he detailed his regular conversations with Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson that leave him calm about his future.

He said: "I don't tend to look too far ahead. I'm enjoying my football, how could you not with the season we've had so far?

"I don't see myself finishing up at the end of the season. My approach has been the same as the clubs, just trying to concentrate on football first and foremost and get ourselves into a great position first.

"But I've got a very open relationship with the gaffer and Ross at the club and we're always talking about different scenarios so I'm not under any pressure or worried about the situation moving forward."

Rangers have qualified for the Champions League next season and will go in at a later qualifying stage when they seal the title.

And Davis admits it would be huge for him to get another chance in Europe's premier competition at such a late stage of his career.

He added: "Of course. It'll be massive for everyone associated with the club and the players are no different. It's a stage you want to play on and to get another taste of it at my age would be very nice."
