Steven Davis nominated for Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year award

Northern Ireland skipper Steven Davis has been nominated for the Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year award.

Rangers dominate the shortlist with all four of the nominees coming from the league champions.

Davis will line up beside Light Blues skipper James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and goalkeeper Allan McGregor for the prestigious gong.

David Weir is the last Rangers player to have been named football writers' top player, that was back in 2010.

Rangers won their first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years this season under Steven Gerrard, who is also in the running for the SFWA Manager of the Year.

Davis and McGregor are the only members of the current squad to have previously won major trophies with the club, and both used their experience to help guide Rangers to a convincing title success.

Meanwhile, captain Tavernier scored 18 goals from defence while Goldson played his part in a defence that conceded just 13 Premiership goals in 2020/21.
