Steven Davis leaves Northern Ireland camp as Rangers star misses Romania game for 'personal reasons'

Rangers star Steven Davis has dropped out of Northern Ireland's Nations League match against Romania.

The Irish FA released a statement citing personal reasons for the 35-year-old's decision.

With 117 international appearances, Davis is the most capped outfield player in the history of the British Isles and has been a consistent performer for club and country this season.

He has been a mainstay in Steven Gerrard 's midfield as the Ibrox club have moved nine points clear in the Scottish Premiership.

The Irish are bottom of their group with a game to play and have only notched a single point in the campaign so far.

A statement read: "Northern Ireland senior men’s captain Steven Davis has left the squad for personal reasons.

"The record caps holder will miss tomorrow’s UEFA Nations League game versus Romania at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park."
