Steven Davis leapfrogs Rangers boss Steven Gerrard to remain on course for stunning international record

Steven Davis has leapfrogged his boss Steven Gerrard to become the joint-fourth most capped UK footballer of all time.

The Northern Ireland midfielder is made his 115th appearance as Michael O'Neill's side hosted the Czech Republic in a friendly on Monday night.

The 34-year-old had been briefly tied alongside Gerrard, who earned 114 England caps during his storied playing career.

Davis has now joined David Beckham in fourth spot and is just 10 caps away from equalling Peter Shilton's all-time record of 125.

Davis' countryman Pat Jennings sits third with 119, one behind Wayne Rooney with 120.

The Rangers midfielder made his international bow in 2005 and was made captain just over a year later.

That made him Northern Ireland's youngest modern day skipper and he led the side to qualification for Euro 2016, losing to Wales in the last 16.

In the current campaign, O'Neill's team must contend with heavyweights Germany and the Netherlands for a place at next summer's Euro 2020 finals.

Davis and Co came within 15 minutes of a shock 1-0 win over the Dutch last week before three quick fire goals cancelled out Josh Magennis' opener.
