Steven Bergwijn's ex-teammate tells Tottenham fans exactly what they want to hear over £27m star

Steven Bergwijn has all the qualities needed to be a success in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

That's the verdict of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Davy Propper, who played alongside the 22-year-old during his two years at PSV Eindhoven, prior to joining the Seagulls.

Propper has also played alongside Bergwijn at international level for Holland, with Tottenham's new signing having nine caps at senior level for Ronald Koeman's side.

And having completed a move to Tottenham in a deal worth around £26.7million, Propper is backing Bergwijn to build on a positive debut for Spurs against Manchester City, having scored a goal in a 2-0 win for Jose Mourinho's side.

Jose Mourinho praises Steven Bergwijn after debut goal

"[He] Could be [a big success]. He has a lot of qualities," Propper said, speaking to Talksport.

"I played with him at PSV, he was very young. He still is very young, he is very fast, his dribbles are very quick and I am very happy for him."

Bergwijn, who has signed a five-year deal with Spurs, was not available to feature for Tottenham in their FA Cup fourth round replay against Southampton last night, having not been registered before the original tie.

He could, however, make his second appearance for the club against Aston Villa after the winter break.
