Steven Bergwijn reveals why Tottenham can end their wait for a trophy this season

Winger Steven Bergwijn is convinced that Tottenham Hotspur can 'achieve something' this season following a strong first half to the season.

Spurs, who travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday evening, have made tremendous strides of improvement under Jose Mourinho so far this season after finishing sixth by the skin of their teeth last term.

Though they have come unstuck in their last three Premier League matches, losing to both Liverpool and Leicester City and drawing with Crystal Palace, Spurs have looked like a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title this season, with their results and performances attracting no shortage of praise.

As well as still hoping to make a charge for the Premier League title this term, Spurs are still alive and kicking in both the Europa League and Carabao Cup, with Mourinho's side having reached the semi-final stages of the latter of those two competitions with a 3-1 win over Stoke City on Wednesday evening.

With the club having gone almost 13 years without winning a major trophy, Mourinho knows he has to do everything within his power to end that drought this season, whether it be by winning the Premier League title, the Europa League or one of the two domestic cup competitions.

And for Bergwijn, he believes Spurs can end that wait for a trophy this term, insisting the players want to follow in Mourinho's footsteps and start laying their hands on silverware.

"Last season was difficult because we had a lot of injuries and we finished sixth, a lot of points behind Liverpool and many clubs," Bergwijn told Sky Sports. "Now we are in the race and everybody knows that we can achieve something with each other.

"We have a big manager, of course, who has won a lot of trophies. Now we want to win trophies as well.

"It is very important that we stick together. In football, these things [bad runs of form] happen in a season and it is still the beginning of the season. We have a lot of games left to play."

At the time of writing, Spurs are sixth in the Premier League table, six points behind Liverpool, who could have opened up a nine-point advantage on Mourinho's troops by the time Spurs face Wolves on Sunday evening.

But in a good omen for Spurs, they will travel to Molineux hoping to continue their impressive run of results in the Black Country, with them having won their last three visits.
