Steven Bergwijn goal celebration explained after scoring on Tottenham debut against Man City

Steven Bergwijn had a debut to remember, scoring the opening goal to fire Tottenham 1-0 in front against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After completing his big-money move from PSV before deadline day, Bergwijn was thrown straight into the thrust of the Premier League, starting Spurs' clash with City.

And Bergwijn's debut was to be capped off in the perfect fashion, firing Jose Mourinho's team in front just past the hour mark with an excellent finish.

The Dutchman, who cost Spurs £27m, fired a half volley into the bottom corner, out of the reach of City keeper Ederson, to spark wild scenes in the stands.

Bergwijn celebrated in his traditional trademark manner, covering his face with one hand and crossing two of his fingers.

After signing for Spurs on Wednesday, he was asked what the celebration was all about.

"It is nothing special, it has just come from when I play FIFA with friends," he said.

"They said 'do it like this' and since then I have always done it like this."
