Steven Adams says his hurt leg ‘healed’ after he found out he made the basket

Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams seems fine after suffering a leg injury during the third quarter of the game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.

Adams drove into the lane and made a tough layup around Lakers center JaVale McGee. The two went to the ground, and it looked like McGee landed on or around Adams’ ankle or foot.

Adams grimaced as he got up and stayed in the game for a couple more possessions before being removed from the game.

He headed back to the hallway for trainers to evaluate his lower leg.

It looked like a scary moment for the Thunder, but Adams returned to the court.

After the game, he was more than nonchalant. Snacking during the Zoom press conference, he said the fact that he made the basket set the leg right.

“Fell over, hurt myself, found out that I made the bucket and then it just healed me,” Adams said casually. “That’s how it goes.”

The magic of hitting a shot.

It doesn’t appear to be serious. Adams continued to play well after returning to the game.

He finished with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting and seven rebounds in the 105-86 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Thunder did not issue any statement regarding his health during or immediately following the game.

Head coach Billy Donovan said Adams seemed fine and is hoping there won’t be any effects Thursday.

“We got him out of the game. Let him just kind of gather himself and then he was fine going right back in. Hopefully there will be nothing (like) residual effects tomorrow,” Donovan said.

If Adams does have to miss time, backup center Nerlens Noel would be relied upon. Power forward/Mike Muscala missed Wednesday’s game due to a concussion he suffered Monday against the Denver Nuggets.
