Steven Adams: Bubble isn’t that hard; ‘we’re living in a bloody resort’

There were some early complaints about the NBA bubble — primarily about the food, and Rajon Rondo likening accommodations to a Motel 6 — but Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams gave some perspective on what the bubble’s like.

During a Zoom call with media Monday, he said the situation was overall fine.

“Let’s be clear: This is not Syria,” Adams said, according to FOX23 reporter Luke Slabaugh. “It’s not that hard … We’re living at a bloody resort.”

He makes a fair point. It must be tough not having freedom to go about where they want. Being away from family must be tough for those who typically live with family. Not having personal chefs takes adjustment. But still: They’re at Disney World resorts in Orlando.

On a Zoom call Sunday, Thunder power forward Kevin Hervey had a similar — though less blunt — assessment.

“I think that they’re doing well with what they have,” he said.

Harvey added with a bit of a laugh: “The food, the nutrients in the food are good. I won’t speak to how it tastes.”

It’s not perfect, Adams said, but as far as the situation could go, the players aren’t facing particularly unreasonable difficulties in the Orlando setup.

“Everyone is going to complain, everyone has their own preferences, but it’s not anything too serious,” he said. “Just a bit of dry food here and there. Get bored every now and then.”
