Steve Williams set to join Mickey Harte's backroom team at Louth after leaving Dundalk role

Steve Williams has left his role as Dundalk goalkeeping coach, the club has announced.

It is understood the Welshman will join Mickey Harte's backroom team at Louth as a goalkeeping coach in the new year.

The Liywhites announced the news on Twitter this afternoon, saying: "Dundalk FC can confirm that goalkeeping coach Steve Williams has left Oriel Park.

"A former player, 'Willow' became part of the backroom staff in 2013.

"We would like to thank him for his contribution to the club and we wish him the very best of luck in the future."

LMFM reported today that Williams would be joining the Louth set-up in the new year.

He previously held the role with the Wee County over a decade ago and worked with Rory Beggan during Monaghan's run to the semi-finals of the All-Ireland in 2018.

Williams worked with the Republic of Ireland football team last month ahead of the Nations League clash with Bulgaria after regular goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly didn't travel to Dublin over Covid-19 fears.
