Steve Weatherford compares Eagles' Sam Bradford to unreliable Ferrari

June 28--New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford believes Philadelphia Eagles Coach Chip Kelly should have kicked the tires on his new stable of quarterbacks before signing the pink slip.

Speaking on the "Boomer and Carton Show" on WFAN-FM in New York on Friday, Weatherford weighed in on the Eagles' quarterbacks, comparing Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez to high-priced cars.

"I'm gonna give you a Ferrari [Bradford] that maybe won't be running all the time, or I'm giving you a nice Cadillac sedan [Sanchez]," Weatherford said. "It's not the fastest but you know what you're going to get out of it. Bradford can go from zero to 60 in three seconds, but you don't know if he's gonna start up some days."

The Eagles acquired the oft-injured Bradford from the St. Louis Rams in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles in March. Bradford, who sat out last season recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, last played in 2013, throwing for 1,687 yards and 14 touchdowns with four interceptions in seven games.

The No. 1 overall pick in 2010, Bradford has played only a full 16 games in two of his five seasons. Bradford will compete with Sanchez to be the Eagles' starting quarterback heading into the final year of his contract. Weatherford believes the Eagles should avoid giving Bradford a contract extension.

"Chip Kelly will get himself in serious trouble if they get an extension for that guy," Weatherford said. "And [if] he gets hurt? He's done."

Weatherford also doesn't understand why the Eagles are taking a chance on Tim Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner who will be battling Matt Barkley for the third-string job.

"I'm the biggest Tim Tebow fan in the world," Weatherford said. "I mean, who wouldn't want their daughter to date a guy like that? I'll tell you what, I don't want him taking snaps for my team."
