NEW YORK _ Someone other than head coach Pat Shurmur has finally weighed in on the pathetic state of the Giants.
And Steve Tisch sounds like a co-owner who recognizes major change is needed.
"It's been a very frustrating season," Tisch, 70, told WNBC-TV New York's Bruce Beck after being honored at Tuesday's March of Dimes sports luncheon at the New York Hilton Midtown. "At the end of the season John Mara and I are gonna get together and discuss the future. As partners we have to be very honest with each other about where we see this team going into the 2020 season."
Tisch added that his message to the fans is: "I'm asking for patience. I'm being patient, which you know at times is challenging. Please be understanding and patient. I want Giants fans to feel that their voice is being heard."
That does not sound like he's asking fans to be patient with this regime. It sounds like he's simply asking them to be patient until Week 17.
It was good to hear from a Giants decision maker. Co-owner John Mara and GM Dave Gettleman haven't addressed the media all season.
Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal also quoted Tisch showing the ability to joke about the Giants' futility in his acceptance speech.
"I know you are having second thoughts about giving an owner of a 2-10 football team a sports leadership award. But look, you couldn't have known, just like the NFL doesn't know what pass interference is," Tisch said.
Obviously, however, Tisch sees the Giants' horrific run under Gettleman and Pat Shurmur as no laughing matter.
