Steve Round's Arsenal role and how he'll assist Mikel Arteta explained

Steve Round is set to join Mikel Arteta's backroom staff at Arsenal - and Sam Allardyce outlined all the things he'll bring to north London.

Round has previously worked as an assistant manger at both Manchester United and Everton; the latter being where he met Arteta, who represented David Moyes' Toffees as a player for six seasons.

Round's last job was at Aston Villa, where the 29-year-old spent two years as the club's director of football before leaving in 2018.

The Englishman was in the stands of Goodison Park alongside Arteta on Saturday, as the duo watched Arsenal draw 0-0 with Everton.

Commenting on the partnership, Allardyce, who worked with Round at Newcastle, provided an insight into the ways in which the coach will assist Arteta at Arsenal.

Allardyce said on BT Sport: "A great coach. Really good coach, Steve, very detailed, very organised.

"Likes to link in a lot with the analysts and the sports scientists and the nutritionists. So he can bring a lot to the table, take a lot of the pressure off Mikel Arteta.

"And obviously Mikel worked with him and must have been impressed with him in his coaching days Steve here with David Moyes at Everton."

Freddie Ljungberg took charge of his final match as interim Gunners manager on Saturday, and confirmed he is set to stay on at Arsenal in some capacity.

"I've been told by the club they want me to stay but I will have a meeting with Mikel tomorrow and hopefully it's a good one," he told BT Sport.
