Steve Round pictured alongside Mikel Arteta and Edu ahead of Arsenal's clash against Everton

Former Manchester United and Everton assistant manager Steve Round has been spotted in attendance at Goodison Park alongside new Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu.

Round is expected to be named as part of Arteta's backroom staff when Arsenal have finalised the details surrounding Arteta's selections.

Round previously worked with Steve McClaren at Middlesbrough and England before moving to Newcastle to join Sam Allardyce in 2007.

In 2008, he became David Moyes' assistant at Everton before moving with him to Manchester United in 2013 when the Scot was named as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor at Old Trafford.

Round also departed when Moyes was sacked in 2014, before becoming director of football at Aston Villa.

Freddie Ljungberg, who has stated he will stay on at Arsenal and is looking forward to working with Arteta, was kept in charge for the clash at Goodison Park after Arteta's appointment on Friday afternoon.

However, Arteta gave a non-committal answer about what Ljungberg's role in the team would be, stating that further discussions were needed after a brief chat at the training ground.

"It's a conversation I was having this morning when we addressed the players and spoke to them," Arteta told reporters. "I had a conversation with him afterwards to see his expectations and how I see the situation. We will know something soon. I haven't had a chance to speak to him.

"Like I said before, I need to sit down and have a proper conversation," he said when asked by football.london about Ljungberg's tweet and his possible role at the club.

"I didn't believe that today was the day, just before travelling to speak to Freddie for 10 minutes because I might need to speak with him for eight hours to really understand then situation, his aims, what he's seen from the players.

"I need to understand the history of what's happened in the last 18 months at the club. We will sit down, grab a coffee or a bowl of coffee, then we will make the decision."
