Steve Price reveals Gareth Widdop blow as he provides Warrington Wolves injury latest

Warrington Wolves playmaker Gareth Widdop is set for a short period on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

The England star left the field injured late on during last Thursday’s 44-18 home win over Leigh Centurions.

He had already been ruled out of Wednesday's trip to Wigan Warriors but head coach Steve Price confirmed he will miss further matches.

Price said: “It’s a shame for Gaz. I thought he’d been playing some fantastic footy.

“He’ll be missing a couple of weeks. I can’t give an exact date but it’s going to be a few weeks.

“Gaz is a pretty good healer and is good with all his prehab, so hopefully it’s not too long and we can get him back to the form he’s been showing.”

The Wire will also head to Wigan without Toby King, who is still recovering from the knee injury he picked up during the 6-2 win at St Helens on June 17.

Yet the former Huddersfield Giants prospect could return for Monday's home game against Leeds Rhinos.

“Toby’s doing really well. He did really well to finish the game against Saints,” he said.

“He was desperate to play for England last week, but he wasn’t right and he still wasn’t right today at training. Hopefully he’ll be okay for the Leeds game.”

Blake Austin was forced off against Leigh with a groin strain but looks set to feature against Wigan.

Second-rower Jason Clark will play on Wednesday after recovering earlier than expected from a calf issue.

Price confirmed that there is still no timescale on Greg Inglis’ comeback from a hamstring injury as doubts persist over whether he will play again this season.
