Steve Parish explains key factors behind Roy Hodgson contract decision at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has expressed his delight that Roy Hodgson has extended his stay with the Eagles.

The Palace boss has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension with the club, after much speculation over his future in recent months.

Hodgson's deal will now run until the end of the 2020/21 campaign, with the Croydon-born 72-year-old set to extend his managerial career beyond 44 years.

The former England boss took charge of Palace in September 2017 and has led the club to respectable 11th and 12th placed finishes in the last two seasons – the club’s fifth and sixth consecutive campaigns in the top-flight respectively.

Both Hodgson and Parish have recently spoken positively about talks over a new deal, and the chairman has now spoken of his joy and the key reasons behind extending the manager's contract with the Eagles.

“I’m delighted that Roy has agreed to extend his contract with the club, and has reinforced his commitment to help us extend this period of unprecedented stability in the top flight," he said, in Palace's announcement of Hodgson's contract extension.

“As I’ve said on many occasions, it is extra special that Roy has a long connection with the club and local community. He has established excellent relationships with everyone at the club, and crucially, the players trust and respect him.”
