Steve Parish and Roy Hodgson break silence on why Crystal Palace have signed Michy Batshuayi

Michy Batshuayi has returned to Crystal Palace.

The striker rejoins the Eagles on a season-long loan deal from London rivals Chelsea, marking his second spell at the club following a successful time during the second half of the 2018/2019 campaign.

Despite scoring six goals in 13 appearances, there was to be no agreement for a permanent deal for the 26-year-old and he returned to Stamford Bridge for the 2019/20 season.

However, he failed to nail down a regular place under new head coach Frank Lampard.

With the Euros now taking place next summer, Batshuayi has given himself the best chance of making the Belgium squad by sealing a return to Palace.

And both Chairman Steve Parish and manager Roy Hodgson have commented on the deal.

"I am absolutely delighted to welcome Michy back to Crystal Palace," Parish told the club's website. "He is a player we’ve long admired, as well as being an immensely popular figure with everyone here during his last successful spell with us.

"With other top European clubs vying for his services it is immensely pleasing that Michy chose to come back to help us up the table as well as cementing his place in the Belgium squad for next summer's Euros."

"I am very happy we have secured Michy on a season long loan," Hodgson added. "He made a great impact at the club in his previous loan spell, albeit only five months long, displaying a goal scoring threat which we very much needed at that time and we are confident he will produce again.

"As a player who will help to convert our chances in to goals, Michy will be another valuable addition to the two new signings we have made this summer.

"It’s another boost for the players and fans alike, and I’m sure everyone will join me in saying welcome back Michy."
