Steve Morison issues transfer update as he insists Cardiff City are 'always on lookout' for signings and delivers verdict on squad size

Steve Morison has left the door ajar for Cardiff City to make more signings this summer, but insists the players will have to be the right fit for the club.

The Bluebirds made their 15th signing of the window last week when they announced the arrival of centre-back Jack Simpson, who has joined on a permanent deal from Rangers.

And while he is delighted with the players he has brought into the squad, the Bluebirds boss has said any other transfer activity could be out of the club's control. But they are now in a position of strength, so won't be rushing into panic-buying any Tom, Dick or Harry.

"A lot of it could be out of our hands," Morison said. "As I said on the weekend, I'm not just going to sign anyone for the sake of it.

"If that player doesn't become available that interests us then we won't do it. But we are always on the lookout, as I'm sure everyone is, and we'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks."

In terms of outgoings, well, Burnley's bid for Bluebirds striker and Wales youth international Isaak Davies is just about the only external interest Cardiff have received for one of their players. "Long may that continue," was Morison's verdict on that.

However, we could certainly see departures before the end of the transfer window.

Asked whether any players were expected to leave on loan any time soon, Morison told WalesOnline: "Possibly, but we have had nothing firm. I think everyone is waiting - I don't know what they are waiting for - but no, there's nothing happening imminently.

"It definitely needs to be trimmed. We've got a lot of players. It becomes frustrating for a lot of players because they get left out or don't travel, play in the under-21s.

"We haven't got any bad eggs, so it's not the end of the world, people are not going to start kicking off. It needs to be trimmed and I'm sure it will over the coming weeks."
