Steve Morison issues major update on Middlesbrough's Uche Ikpeazu and the latest on pursuit of Wolves' Ryan Giles

Cardiff City boss Steve Morison has said the club's pursuit of Middlesbrough forward Uche Ikpeazu is off.

The Bluebirds registered their interest in the striker this week, but after Boro insisted they would only be keen to offload him if he was sold, the deal was brought to an abrupt end.

Boro boss Chris Wilder on Friday morning namechecked Cardiff when asked if there had been interest in the player, however Morison clarified that no deal will happen before Monday's deadline.

"Yeah he is a player who did well against us previously," Morison said. "We have looked at loads of options, we need help in the group.

"It’s not something we are going to be able to do, because they want a permanent deal and we are not in that market.

"It was over very, very quickly.

"I couldn’t believe it. I had a quick chat and within 10 minutes it was all in the press!

"It was literally a chat which started and ended with nothing happening. So, there's nothing happening!

"There's not a lot more to say on it. You’re not going to all of a sudden see him come through the door."

Morison confirmed he still wanted a left-sided player and a striker through the door before Monday's deadline.

Cardiff have made little secret of their desire to bring Ryan Giles back to the club after the player was recalled by Wolves at the beginning off the window.

However, Morison is simply waiting for the green light from Wolves to release him and believes Cardiff are at the front of the queue if the Molineux outfit decide to do that.

He did add, though, that if it came too late in the day, Cardiff would be prepared to move on to other targets to get a deal over the line.

"There is no new news," he said on Giles. "We are still waiting on Wolves.

"I’ve been confident on that for 28 days and we are still waiting on Wolves to make the decision. So, I'm holding out.

"I want the player back. But I’m also prepared to go elsewhere if it gets too late in the day.

"There’ll be other clubs in for him, no doubt. It’s just up to Wolves to give the green light.

"There comes a time when it’s too late. So, until it gets to the end of the road then I’ll keep waiting for Wolves for give us the green light."
