Steve McManaman makes Jude Bellingham transfer claim amid Manchester United and Liverpool talk

Steve McManaman says Manchester United 'need' Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, over the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

The 18-year-old has been linked with a return to England a little over a year after he made the move to the Bundesliga.

Liverpool, United and City are among the clubs rumoured to be interested in Bellingham, although McManaman believes he is needed at Old Trafford.

"He [Bellingham] has got all the attributes to be a superstar," he told Horseracing.net.

"When you look through the teams and the sides that could buy him – Manchester United would need that type of player as a central midfielder. Manchester City, with Rodri, Ilkay Gündogan, Bernardo Silva, not so much.

"Liverpool have got Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho. Of course it would be a great signing, he’s a great player, but whether Liverpool need him now is another thing.

"Henderson is moving towards the end of his career. James Milner also. So Liverpool could always take another centre midfielder but it’s very congested in there.

"I think United need a centre midfielder of that [Bellingham's] ilk," McManaman added.

"So if there’s one team that needs a player like Jude Bellingham, it’s Manchester United."

Despite Liverpool already being well-stocked in the midfield department, the Reds 'lead the race' for the young starlet, according to a recent report from the Mirror.

The report claims Jurgen Klopp has identified Bellingham as long term replacements for likes of of Henderson and Fabinho, but they club may be required to smash their transfer record to land his signature.
