Steve McManaman makes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain claim amid Arsenal transfer links

Steve McManaman has urged Arsenal to re-sign their former star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who made the switch from the Emirates to Liverpool in a £35m deal in the summer of 2017.

During his four years playing under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, the 28-year-old has won the Premier League and Champions League, however his spell on Merseyside has been severely hampered by injuries.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is now fully fit but has struggled for opportunities this season.

Former Reds star McManaman is adamant that Mikel Arteta should try and bring the former Gunner back to north London and is “without a doubt” worth the £35m that Liverpool reportedly want for him.

“I think Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is easily worth the money," McManaman told Horseracing.net.

“He did have that bad injury for Liverpool a couple of years ago against Roma and he was out for a long time. But sometimes that happens. Since then he’s been fit and well. He came on against Watford and played.

“If he wants to leave and play first team football that’s entirely up to him. The question is, is he worth that kind of money? And the answer is yes, without a doubt.

“It seems like a hell of a lot of money, but it’s not a lot when you look around and see the figures being paid by some other football teams.”

It remains unclear how serious Arsenal are in acquiring the services of their former star, as the reported fee to prise him away from Anfield is close to what they received when they sold him to the Reds over four years ago.
