Steve McManaman identifies the Leeds United problem that's 'easy' to fix

Steve McManaman says it should not take much for Leeds United to improve their defensive record with set-pieces this season.

The Whites have conceded the most goals in the Premier League from set-pieces this season, with their defensive record coming under the microscope from some due to how they commit players forward in Marcelo Bielsa's attack-minded style.

Whilst McManaman feels that their overall defensive record can be explained by Bielsa's style, he admits that there is more concern over how many goals they have conceded from set-pieces.

Yet, speaking on BT Sport ahead of Leeds' defeat to Wolves on Friday night, the pundit argued that this problem should be simple to fix, and it is just a case of putting in the hard work on the training ground.

It has left McManaman feeling optimistic over the Whites' chances as they get to grips with life in the Premier League in their first season back in the top flight.

He said: "It's the fact they've come into the Premier League, they want to play their attack-minded football, they want to throw people forward, so at times they leave themselves vulnerable at the back.

"Yes, they've been caught out on set-pieces and that's something they're going to have to work on because that's easy to get on the training ground and work on.

"You just have to be more aggressive, you just have to mark the people if you're man-marking and be more solid in there.

"I think the more they stay in the Premier League and evolve, the more they'll start to address those issues.

"The main thing is, they keep running forward and scoring more goals than anyone else."
