Steve McLendon’s contract extension guarantees him over $1 million in 2020

The Jets announced on Saturday that they agreed on a one-year extension to keep nose tackle Steve McLendon in green and white into 2020.

The 33-year-old has been a veteran voice and leader for the Jets’ defense since signing with the team in 2016. His leadership, along with his production in the trenches, gave the Jets enough reason to ink McLendon to a one-year extension worth $3 million, with $1.65 million in guarantees according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

In three seasons with the Jets, McLendon has appeared in 44 games eclipsing 100 tackles and single-digit sacks. At 6’3”, 310-pounds, the Troy product has proven to be a resilient addition to the defensive line. Now, the Jets can only hope that his extension translates to success on the field.
