Steve Martin is a big fan of North East detective series Vera - although he may not get to see the setting much on his upcoming UK tour.
The US comedian and Hollywood star spoke about his love of British TV, name checking Vera as a show he enjoys watching.
Vera stars Brenda Blethyn as DCI Vera Stanhope, a detective who solves gritty crime in Northumberland and the surrounding areas.
Steve told PA: "A lot of high quality stories have moved to television. It used to be anathema to a movie actor and now it's not. Now it's the place to be.
"I have to say, whenever I watch English television dramas, including Vera, the acting is so superb.
"From the assistant answering the phone, they're incredible playing that part, to the extra in the background.
"I can't believe it, that quality acting is so common now, especially in British television."
The Planes, Trains and Automobiles star is heading to the UK and Ireland on tour next year with Martin Short - although there is no North East date, so he may not get to visit the scenery celebrated in Vera. Tickets go on sale on September 27.
