Steve Martin and Selena Gomez tease with ‘Father of the Bride’ moment

Steve Martin delighted fans by appearing to recreate a moment from Father of the Bride with Selena Gomez.

Martin took to twitter to share a snap of himself in a suit standing arm in arm with the actress Gomez who was wearing a white wedding dress.

“Look what just happened!” the comedian captioned the image.

The photo of the 77-year-old, who is starring with Gomez in the TV series Only Murders in the Building, was presumably taken on set of their show, in which they play neighbours who come together to solve a murder in their apartment building.

However, while it’s likely to be connected to the show, fans appreciated what they believe was a nod to Martin’s hit 1991 film, Father Of The Bride, which was followed by a sequel in 1995.

“The neighbour of the bride,” joked one, while another fan quipped: “Grandfather of the Bride.”

Getting into the spirit of the puns, another added: “Platonic Friend of the Bride Part 3!”

Martin, 77, also shared a picture of Gomez with Martin Short, their fellow Murders castmate, who played wedding planner Franck in Father of the Bride.

In the hit 90s film, which also starred Diane Keaton, Martin played George Banks, a businessman who becomes disgruntled and angry when his 22-year-old daughter Annie, returns from college and announces her engagement.

The comedy and its follow-up became a box office smash and remains two of Martin’s most beloved films.
