Steve Kerr: Younger generations ‘can’t feel’ Michael Jordan’s ‘dominance’

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr hopes that “The Last Dance” helps show those who weren’t old enough to watch Michael Jordan just how remarkable the Chicago Bulls legend was.

“They can see the highlights, but they can’t feel his dominance and that’s what I’m hoping this documentary really shows,” Kerr said to Scott Van Pelt in a segment that aired late Sunday night.

“The Last Dance,” an ESPN documentary on the Jordan-era Chicago Bulls with a focus on the 1987-88 season, debuted the first two of 10 episodes Sunday night.

It introduced the team, main stars on the court and in the front office, and conflicts that would arise throughout that final season.

These episodes quickly jumped into Michael Jordan’s growth in college and how quickly it became obvious he was the best player on the Bulls, and showed highlights of his 63-point playoff game against the Boston Celtics.

Van Pelt asked Kerr what memories and emotions came flooding back during the making of this documentary and while watching it Sunday.

“I just think how much fun it was to be a part of, how great NBA basketball was in the ’90s, how different it was then to now and how dominant Michael was,” Kerr said.

“Not just physically but spiritually. The hold he had over the entire league, over everybody. It was just dramatic.”

Kerr played for the Bulls for five seasons, winning three NBA Finals rings with Chicago.

“The Last Dance” will continue airing Sunday nights at 6 p.m. Eastern Time until the conclusion of the 10-part series.
