Steve Kerr to Congress: ‘Show some leadership’ on Trump’s racist tweets

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has never been a fan of Donald Trump and he is using his platform once again to call for change. This time, he is not taking the president to task, who was condemned over the weekend for tweeting racist sentiments towards four female members of the House of Representatives, but Congress, for its silence and complicity on the matter.

“Come on members of Congress, call out the president for his racist tweets this morning,” Kerr wrote. “Show some leadership. It’s the job you were elected to do.”

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Trump told four members of Congress to “go back” to the countries they came from, although three of the four freshmen representatives were born in the United States. The congresswomen, all women of color, are: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York), Rashida Tlaib (Michigan), Ilhan Omar (Minnesota) and Ayanna Pressley (Massachusetts).

According to political reporter Devan Cole, Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, Omar and Pressley “have been outspoken about Trump’s immigration policies” and “last week condemned the conditions of border detention facilities.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said she will take up a resolution in the House of Representatives to deal with Trump’s “xenophobic tweets.” Republicans, meanwhile, have largely stayed silent but Senator Lindsay Graham has doubled down with Trump in attacking the four representatives.
