Steve Kean set for Hibs academy director role as Easter Road club ramp up youth policy

Steve Kean is set to be named Hibs ’ academy director in an ambitious shake-up of the Easter Road youth system.

The former Blackburn Rovers boss had been working with Melbourne Victory in Australia and took over as caretaker boss following the sacking of former Hibee Grant Brebner at the end of the last season.

He also had spells in Greece with Crete and Brunei with DPMM FC as well as working for the SFA coach education programme.

But the Scot is heading home to take on the new position at Easter Road with his appointment imminent.

Chief Executive Ben Kensell this week revealed Hibs were close to making an “exciting” appointment on the pathway between development squad and first team.

Ryan Porteous is the only regular to have come through the club’s own system in recent years.

But Kensell said: “From the player pathway, we believe we have good players who can come through potentially into the first team in the years to come.

“What we want to do is have a system and structure that allows that to happen and to allow it to be successful.

“We’ll make an appointment there. It’s a senior, credible, experienced candidate who can improve us in every area in that part of the club.”
