Steve Jagielka made 207 appearances for Shrewsbury Town
(Picture: Getty Images)Former Sheffield United and Shrewsbury Town midfielder Steve Jagielka - the older brother of Blades defender Phil Jagielka - has died at the age of 43.
In a statement released via social media on Wednesday afternoon, Sheffield United said: “Sheffield United is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Steve Jagielka – brother of current defender Phil – at the age of 43.
“The condolences of all at the Blades are with Phil and the rest of the Jagielka family at this difficult time.”
Jagielka - who began his playing career at Stoke - was best known for a six-year stint at Shrewsbury Town, scoring 23 goals in 207 appearances for the club between 1997-03.
He then joined brother Phil at Sheffield United, but did not feature for the first team and left for Accrington Stanley in 2004, helping the latter to win promotion to the Football League.

He also played for the likes of Droylsden and AFC Telford United.
“Shrewsbury Town Football Club is deeply saddened to receive news that Steve Jagielka has passed away aged 43,” Shrewsbury said.
“Steve joined Salop in 1997 and is a member of the exclusive '200 Club' having represented Salop on 207 occasions during a six-year stay in Blue and Amber - scoring 23 goals along the way.
“Steve will be fondly remembered for being a part of the Town team that orchestrated Town’s great escape victory at Exeter in 2000. The midfielder also went on to play with Accrington Stanley and AFC Telford United. In 2003, Steve also helped Salop achieve a cup upset with a 2-1 victory over David Moyes' Everton in the FA Cup.”

Accrington Stanley said: “Everyone at ASFC is absolutely devastated to hear of the death of former midfielder Steve Jagielka.
“Steve made history with the Reds, playing a big part as Stanley won the Conference title in 2006. Our thoughts are with his family & friends at this tragic time.”
