Bindi Irwin and her fiancé Chandler Powell have decided to hold their wedding ceremony at Australia Zoo later this year, in memory of Bindi’s late father Steve Irwin.
The news was confirmed by Terri Irwin as she spoke to the Courier Mail about her husband, who was best known as The Crocodile Hunter to his legions of fans around the world.
Terri explained: "We want to acknowledge Steve by all of us lighting this candle for him, but you know, I guess in some ways it's not necessary because Steve will be there anyway.
"I believe the people we love always are. You know, if you are missing someone, I think it's helpful to know that scientifically you can't actually create or extinguish life, you can only change its form," she said.
Chandler first met Bindi at Australia Zoo during a visit with his family in 2013.
The pair are said to have hit 'hit it off right away' and continued to exchange letters before becoming a couple and getting engaged in May last year.
Terri, 55, also revealed that Bindi's brother Robert would walk her down the aisle at the wedding in Steve's abscence.
Animal lover Bindi previously gave an interview to New Idea magazine where she discussed her rather unusual plans for after the wedding.
The 21-year-old said that she and fiancé Chandler are hoping to feed crocodiles at the zoo right after the ceremony.
“We all keep joking that our first thing as man and wife will be feeding the crocodiles," she laughed.
Bindi also shared her hope of having children of her own one day and encouraging a passion for animals and nature in them as her parents had done with her.
"I think it's a way away right now, but when it does happen, I can guarantee you they'll have their own Khaki because Khaki is not just a colour, it's an attitude," she explained.
Chandler popped the question to Bindi on her 21st birthday last year after six years together.
Bindi announced the news on Twitter alongside two loved up snaps with her hubby-to-be.
She wrote: "On my birthday I said ‘yes’ & ‘forever’ to the love of my life.
"Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you & every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure & true happiness.
Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose & unconditional love."
Chandler then shared his own post which read: "She said YES! Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo. I immediately fell head over heels for your kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light. "I love you more than anything in this world and I always will. Forever together sounds perfect."
