Steve Hitchen sent 'heartfelt' email to Tottenham staff before exit amid Everton links

Steve Hitchen reportedly sent an 'heartfelt' email to Tottenham Hotspur staff before his exit amid links over a move to Everton.

The Blues are weighing up bringing in Hitchen as the club look set to reshape their recruitment department.

It was confirmed on Wednesday evening that Hitchen resigned from his role as Technical Performance Director with Spurs.

He has since emerged as a candidate to head up the recruitment department at Everton, after director of football Marcel Brands left the club in early December.

CONNOR O'NEILL: Farhad Moshiri must continue Everton trend as Steve Hitchen eyed for recruitment role

Everton have been performing a strategic review of their football operations and the ECHO understands they will keep faith with the director of football model.

And Hitchen has emerged as a strong candidate to take on that role after the departure of Brands.

Our colleagues over at football.london are reporting that Hitchen, who spent a decade at Spurs, sent an emotional email to the club’s staff explaining his decision to resign.

The 45-year-old asked Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on Tuesday to release him from his contract.

It has been claimed that Hitchen had been considering his future at Spurs since last summer, when the club brought in Fabio Paratici as the clubs new managing director of football.

Hitchen, the report claims, took more of a backseat after Paratici's arrival, focusing on helping the former Juventus chief appraise and overhaul various departments within the football side of the club, including scouting, analysis and sports science.

It has also been claimed that Hitchen has had little involvement in Tottenham’s past two transfer windows - last summer and this January.

Hitchen became a popular figure at Spurs over the years among players and staff, and quickly formed a friendship with manager Antonio Conte.
