Steve Evans admits 'enormous' love Leeds United - but fears promotion push may be lost

July has to be the cut off for Leeds United’s return to action or the Championship season should be scrubbed from history.

That is the view of former Elland Road boss Steve Evans, now at League One Gillingham, who acknowledges that route would hurt his former side.

The Scot, who oversaw the lion’s share of United’s mid-table 2015/16 campaign, feels the entire year must be expunged rather than have leagues decided on points-per-game ratios.

“We certainly can’t be completing last season in August, September or October,” Evans told KentOnline.

“I am very focussed that we will hopefully go back to football. There are lots of things we need to overcome.

“If we are not playing by July then I think results expunged.

"It would hurt the teams I love enormously, teams like Leeds United (top of the Championship).

“I have love for Peterborough United and I have a love in Scotland for Celtic to be champions.

"At the end of the day, if you can’t play the games, forget points average, forget everything.

“This is unprecedented and it should be season expunged and people start again, start again as we started last summer.”
