Bristol Rovers have missed out on one of their key transfer targets, but the fans are remaining positive.
Goalkeeper Jack Bonham on a two-year deal having enjoyed a successful loan at the Memorial Stadium from Brentford last season.
The stopper kept an impressive 18 clean sheets as Rovers secured their third tier status for another year.
After his release by the Bees at the end of the campaign, Rovers manager Graham Coughlan opened talks with Bonham to try and convince him to join the club on a permanent basis.
However, it seems his head was turned by a move to Kent for whatever reason.
Bristol Rovers fans have reacted to the blow on social media, with many managing to remain positive. News of Bonham's move arrived the same day the signing of Mark Little was announced.
Luke Tarling: Might have made sense to him to be honest, Gillingham isn’t a million miles away from London so he doesn’t have to relocate and I’m presuming he has family that live in and around London. Best of luck to him for the new season nonetheless.
Matt Phillips: It’s just a keeper we will find another.
Tony Helliar: Disappointing, a good 'keeper. I think maybe he and James Clarke found last season really tough and fancied a move elsewhere even though they both played well. Give Alexis Andre a chance. Need another keeper in though.
Seb Hurcombe: Steve Evans charmed him. Shame, but we need to move on and find someone at least as good as Jack.
James Read: He wasn't as good as people say. Average league one keeper who made just as many mistakes as he did saves. There are others out there that will come who are better.
Adam Cox: Shame but got to move forward.
Bernie Ferntree: He use to spill the ball with shots hit straight at him on a regular basis, apart from that he was an OK 'keeper. He got us a fair few points. Better the devil you know I think. Keepers are hard to find.
Gordon Mcgillivray Hine: Really there's going to be nothing left at this club.
The Beard: Gillingham? He's clearly lost his mind!! Anyone who chooses to work with Steve Evans has clearly lost their mind.
