Steve Cooper targets Nottingham Forest January transfer as he closes in on Reds job

Steve Cooper is reportedly eyeing up a move for Swansea City's Jay Fulton if he lands the Nottingham Forest job.

According to the Sun on Sunday, Cooper wants a reunion with the midfielder once the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

Cooper is understood to be in talks with Forest over becoming Chris Hughton's successor, with additional negotiations over a £1.2m compensation package with Swansea also 'going well'.

And if reports are to be believed, Cooper has already earmarked Fulton as a player he would like to add to Forest's squad.

The 27-year-old is currently playing for Swansea having made four appearances this season, although he has been an unused substitute in their last three games.

Fulton was a key player for Swansea as they reached the Championship play-off final last year, but his dreams of making the Premier League were shattered when he was sent off in the final against Brentford, who secured a 2-0 victory at Wembley.

The Sun on Sunday also reports that Cooper will be given a transfer war chest to help strengthen the squad in the New Year.

In what has been a difficult week for Forest, it ended with a much-needed three points on Saturday as interim boss Steven Reid guided them to a 2-0 win at Huddersfield.

Lewis Grabban and Joe Lolley were the scorers as the Reds toasted their first victory of the season.

Reflecting on the victory, Reid said: "It's been quite a day. I've got a headache now!

"It's been a tough couple of days, with the events of the other night and Chris, unfortunately, losing his job. It was a short period of time to get prepared for today.

"You've got to try to get the tactical information into the players, for a game we needed to get a result in.

"Finding ourselves in the position we are in, it was important we got something out of the game. I was fully confident.

"I made a few changes to the team selection and the formation, which I thought would give us the best chance of getting a result.

"The beauty of having the analysts at the club now, having the software and having the footage we've got is that, even with a quick turnaround, you can pretty quickly get a lot of information into the players.

"We probably had an extra meeting or two than we usually would have in the build-up to a game. But for the players to come here and not only put in the performance they did, but also the heart and the desire they showed, was all credit to them."
