Steve Cooper set survival target after Nottingham Forest manager decision

The news that Steve Cooper will be in the Nottingham Forest dugout for Monday’s clash with Aston Villa has been broadly welcomed by Reds fans.

Cooper was thought to be in danger after a run of five defeats sent Forest tumbling to the bottom of the Premier League.

However, The Telegraph reports that Cooper is set to stay on following boardroom talks.

Replying to the breaking news on NottinghamshireLive’s Nottingham Forest Facebook page, fans were in agreement that now is the time to get behind the Reds head coach.

Some even went as far as to suggest owner Evangelos Marinakis should persevere with the Welshman even if Forest slide out of the Premier League this season.

Here’s what they have been saying:

Stefan Flannery: Come on Super Cooper. We are right behind you!

Per Boye: First season will be extremely tough, new team and Cooper just getting his feet wet. He brought us here, he will keep us here.

Alexander Seaton: We need to stick together and on Monday need to make as much noise as possible to get behind the manager and the team to show them we are behind them.

Ian Harris: He’s done wonders for this club and it’s so disrespectful for anyone to even think he should go. He’s by far the best manager we’ve had in years and should stay no matter what the outcome is this season.

Mark Parker: 17th place was always my target.

Andrew Gray: People going on as if Cooper’s the second coming of Cloughie. He’s not!

Alan May: In Cooper we trust. It will take time for the team to gel and getting his first choice 11. The players now need to play to save Cooper's job.

Michael Odwyer: Good, common sense, we will be fine, it will all work out.

John Brownhill: Good and for this season and next even if we go down, he will get us up again.

Keith Rooks: Good…these players need to step up.
