Steve Cooper sent 'important' Nottingham Forest transfer message

Neil Lennon says Steve Cooper needs to be given time and full control of recruitment at Nottingham Forest.

Cooper has been officially installed as the Reds’ new head coach following the sacking of Chris Hughton last week.

The managerial revolving door has been spinning on an all too regular basis at the City Ground over the last decade.

With that in mind, former Celtic manager Lennon, who had a spell on loan on at Forest during his playing days, is cautious about Cooper’s prospects of success.

"They've had good managers there. Chris has a great record in the Championship and the Premier League,” said Lennon on Sky Sports News this evening (via the Mirror ).

"Mark Warburton was there too, Martin O'Neill as well.

"I remember speaking to Martin about his time there. He finished the season well and then they sacked him in pre-season and brought in Lamouchi, and you're thinking 'where's the logic?'

"It's very volatile. It's a big club getting good crowds but there's something missing.

"Maybe they'll give Steve a standing where he can take control of the recruitment because that's going to be important for him to get his certain style of player in.

"They had a good win at the weekend and they have the basis of a good squad. But he needs time."
