Steve Cooper's response to Liberty Stadium boos after Swansea City's flat 0-0 draw with Barnsley

Steve Cooper admits he understands the frustrations of fans following Swansea City's 0-0 draw with Barnsley.

The Swans were lacklustre for 30 minutes but created numerous openings as the game wore on, with Sam Surridge twice going close as well as having a goal ruled out for offside in the second half.

But they were unable to find the all-important winner as they ended 2019 with a whimper.

Despite the stalemate, Swansea remain in striking distance of the Championship's top six and are five points better off than they were at the same stage last season.

Although after a frustrating display against Gerhard Struber's side, sections of the Swansea faithful voiced their concerns with a smattering of boos at the full-time whistle of

And Cooper says he understands the anger of the Jack Army after what was a disappointing result.

"I understand the fans' frustrations, I think we’re all frustrated. That’s all it was," he said.

"During the game I thought they were excellent, they were driving us on because they could see what we were feeling.

"They could see a team who were a little bit tired which meant we lacked a little bit of quality in the build-up, but the team were having a go.

"The crowd played their part during the game, spurring us on, but we were all feeling the same way at full-time.

"We just didn’t have that cutting edge to get the goal, and it makes it doubly frustrating as we had chances.

"I’ve got no problem with the fans, I thought they were really good during the game and if there is any frustrations then we will share that with them, that’s for sure."

Swansea end the year with 38 points from 25 Championship fixtures.

And despite being in ninth place in the league standings, Swansea are just one point behind Sheffield Wednesday who are sixth.

Cooper's men open up 2020 against Charlton Athletic at the Liberty Stadium on Thursday night before taking on Queens Park Rangers in the third round of the FA Cup three days later.
