Steve Cooper's response to claims Swansea City are 'on the brink' of signing Liverpool's Rhian Brewster

Steve Cooper has reiterated that Swansea City will not be making any signings in the January transfer window, despite reports claiming that they were on the brink of securing a loan deal for Liverpool's Rhian Brewster.

The Swans have been heavily linked with a move for the English striker, with the Reds seemingly keen to see the 19-year-old leave Merseyside on a temporary basis in a bid to gain some much needed first team experience elsewhere.

Prior to Swansea's 0-0 draw with Barnsley at the Liberty Stadium, reports claimed that Cooper's side were "on the brink" of completing a loan move for Brewster after successful negotiations between the Swans and the top brass at Anfield.

The Athletic are reporting that talks have been held between the two clubs.

But speaking after the stalemate with Gerhard Struber's men, Cooper once again stated that his side were not going to bring any players in next month.

"No update, apart from, it's common knowledge that there's no money," he said on Brewster.

"We're going into January now. We're not going to get frustrated when we see other clubs that are bringing players in and have a few quid to spend.

"We're not going to be comparing ourselves to that because otherwise you're focusing on something that's not in your control.

"We are where we are, and my belief is to work really hard and get the best out of the players we have, because they're giving their best.

"Until such time that changes, in terms of personnel, I won't think about it but we won't be bringing anyone in.

"Hopefully we can keep hold of the players that we want. But there isn't any news on that either.

"It's not just one way traffic. They can go both ways, but there's no update on ins or outs."

It's understood that the option of delving into the loan market is one that has been explored due to the club's financial situation, and Cooper previously stated he is fully aware that he has just one more space for a loan signing in his matchday squad.

Brewster - who finished as the top scorer as Cooper led England's Under-17s to glory at the 2017 World Cup - has made two first-team appearances under Jurgen Klopp this season.
