Steve Cooper's Reading frustration and pitch admission as Swansea City boss gives Ryan Bennett update

Steve Cooper admits he was frustrated after Swansea City were unable to claim all three points in their final match of 2020 against Reading.

Goalkeeper Rafael Cabral produced a number of magnificent saves to ensure the game ended goalless at the Liberty Stadium, meaning Swansea finish the year in third place in the Championship table.

And Cooper was unable to hide his frustration with the result, although he admitted there were a number of positives to be drawn from the display.

"I think you have to be frustrated because I thought we played really well and I thought we created a lot of chances," said the head coach.

"For large parts, I don't think it was poor finishing, their goalkeeper had an excellent night, he made a load of good saves, one in particular off Andre's [Ayew] head in the second half was top drawer.

"It's frustrating, but I don't think we can be disappointed. We played well, the effort was good. Reading have been a dangerous team so far this season.

"They've got a lot of players that can make a big difference, and we've limited them to chances from set plays, they had nothing from open play.

"We're frustrated because we deserved more."

The stalemate was the first since the Liberty Stadium pitch was given an overhaul.

The surface proved to be hugely beneficial for the Swans who caused the Royals plenty of problems throughout the course of the game.

"Fair play, credit to the club for making the change on that," said Cooper on the pitch.

"It looked better for a start. It played well, and it's a pitch now worthy of playing games on in the league."

There was a significant injury concern to emerge from the game though as Ryan Bennett was forced off shortly after the restart.

The summer signing was replaced by Joel Latibeaudiere after stretching when attempting to make an interception in the 53rd minute.

And Cooper says the central defender will be assessed ahead of Saturday's clash with Watford.

When asked if Bennett had suffered a hamstring injury, Cooper responded: "I think so, but I'm not sure because I haven't seen him to talk to for too much, I only saw him quickly.

"I don't know the extent of it. We'll find out more in the next day or two."
