Steve Cooper's Nottingham Forest contract and Swansea compensation figure revealed

Nottingham Forest have appointed former Swansea City boss Steve Cooper as their new head coach at the City Ground.

The former Swans man moves to the banks of the Trent with Forest sat bottom of the Championship.

A 2-0 victory at Huddersfield Town, under the guidance of caretaker manager Steven Reid, was the Reds' first taste of victory this season having previously suffered six defeats in seven league matches.

It proved to be the club's worst start to a season for more than 100 years and the poor form ultimately cost Chris Hughton his position at the City Ground.

Cooper joins the Reds as a head coach rather than taking the manager role that Hughton previously held.

Forest chief executive Dane Murphy has given Cooper some stability on Trentside with the ex-Swansea City man signing a two-year deal in the Midlands.

Cooper left Swansea City earlier this summer but the terms of his departure meant the Welsh side would be due a compensation fee if he was to find a new employer within 12 months.

NottinghamshireLive understands Forest have negotiated a fee of £500,000 in order to obtain the former England youth coach's services.

Cooper is reportedly set to be joined by two of his former colleagues from Swansea City at the City Ground.

Reports claim former Swansea head of performance analysis Steve Rands and first team coach Alan Tate will be reunited with Cooper at the City Ground.
