Steve Cooper's Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United conversations as Swansea City boss makes 2020/21 loan admission

Steve Cooper has revealed he held positive discussions with a number of Premier League bosses over Swansea City's loan stars during lockdown.

The Swans currently have six men on loan, five of which are from clubs in the top tier of English football.

Cooper has given those stars plenty of game time during his debut campaign at the Liberty Stadium, with January recruits Rhian Brewster and Conor Gallagher among those to make a significant impact since moving to South Wales.

Their efforts have led to fans calling for some of the loan men to remain at SA1 beyond their current agreements.

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has already revealed he is keen to stay with the Swans after this season having played every single minute of league action this term after joining on a temporary basis from Newcastle.

And Cooper admits that while negotiating transfer deals isn't currently at the forefront of his mind, he confirmed the Swans would look to keep some players on beyond their current deals should that prove to be beneficial for the club.

"The plans for next season, we are putting them in place because you have to do that," he explained.

"But we are focused on getting this season done as best we can. There are players we would love to keep, and if there is an opportunity to do that we will be jumping all over it.

"We have a dialogue with the parent clubs, but there are not many clubs committing to plans for next season given the situation.

"But if it is right to continue next year, and it’s right for the club I am sure we would like to do it."

Cooper has stated that all six of his loan players will be available to feature for Swansea throughout the remainder of the protracted campaign.

It comes after Swansea officially secured short-term contract extensions with Brewster and Aldo Kalulu for the pair to see out the remainder of the season with the club after Woodman and Ben Wilmot had done the same earlier on in lockdown.

And the Swansea head coach says his conversations with the likes of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Chelsea's Frank Lampard and Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce about his loan stars in recent months were hugely positive.

"The feedback has been positive," he said.

"I spoke to Frank Lampard over lockdown and Steve Bruce, as well as Jurgen Klopp and we also send reports, clips and footage, which is pretty normal.

"They are positive, they let us get on with it as they respect we have our work to do. There is normally more extra dialogue if things are not going well, so it’s been fine."
