Steve Cooper on Kristoffer Nordfeldt's frustrations and Swansea City's goalkeeping situation

Steve Cooper admits he understands Kristoffer Nordfeldt's frustrations over his lack of game time with Swansea City this season.

The Swedish goalkeeper played 25 times in all competitions for Swansea under Graham Potter during the 2018/19 campaign, but his only three appearances under Cooper this term have come in the Carabao Cup.

During the international break, Nordfeldt hinted that he could depart the club in January having opened up on his lack of action under the current regime at the Liberty Stadium.

"I’m not happy and I don’t suppose they think it’s good that I’m sitting where I’m sitting either, if you can put it like that," he told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen.

"It is quite obvious that they are not happy to pay what they do to me when I am not contributing. Especially considering the situation the club is in financially.

"There is good interest but then it will work with the club in question as well."

And Cooper has revealed he sympathises with the 30-year-old over his current situation.

"Somebody did put it on my desk. I can understand it, he’s not playing," said Cooper.

"I guess he’s at an age and a stage where he wants to be playing. I'd be disappointed if he thought any differently.

"Erwin's (Mulder) the same. Steven Benda has gone out on loan. I've said all along, including Freddie (Woodman), we’ve got four keepers who can more than do a job for us, or three goalkeepers at the moment with Steven out on loan.

"But Kris is obviously not happy with the situation. I don't disagree with him to be honest, I don't think I would be either."

Nordfeldt - who joined Swansea from Heerenveen in 2015 - is in the final year of his contract at SA1.
