Steve Cooper gives response to question on Nottingham Forest contract situation

Boss Steve Cooper has again reiterated his stance over his contract situation at Nottingham Forest.

Following promotion at the end of May, owner Evangelos Marinakis stated his desire to tie Cooper down to a new deal. The Welshman has little more than 12 months to run on the terms he signed when he took charge at the City Ground last September.

Talks took place earlier in the summer, with the basis of a new contract understood to have been broadly agreed. And although he has yet to put pen to paper, Cooper has again stated it is not something which is on his mind - his focus is purely on the team.

It is a subject he has been quizzed on several times in recent weeks and months. Asked if there was an update on the situation, he said: “I’m not sure. It’s not something I’m even thinking about, to be fair.

“If you know me, it’s not something that will be in my mind. I’m more interested in the greater good of the club, trying to prepare the team for the next game, and trying to prepare the squad for the season. That will always be at the forefront of my mind.”

The Reds have made an encouraging start to life in the Premier League after a 23-year absence. They have picked up four points from their opening three games, beating West Ham United and drawing 1-1 at Everton on Saturday.

Next up is a League Cup tie at Grimsby Town. Forest make the trip to Blundell Park on Tuesday night, with Cooper likely to make changes to his starting line-up ahead of a week which sees his team face Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in quick succession.
