Steve Cooper drops hint over youth talents needing to 'earn' opportunities

It is no surprise that newly-appointed head-coach Steve Cooper takes pride in working with young talents and has done throughout his career.

Most notably at Swansea City, when he secured consecutive sixth and then fourth-place finishes in the past two Championship seasons.

The 41-year-old boss was also in charge of Liverpool's academy before taking charge of England under-16s and then under-17s.

In his recent press-conference, he told NottinghamshireLive: "I want to get to know all the players like that."

The Welshman also pointed out his reunion with former players he previously coached during his managerial career.

"Jimmy Garner was my captain with the 2001 group and Alex [Mighten] was in the 2002 group.

"It's been great to see Alex again. Good kid and an exciting player. I'm glad he's had some opportunities.

"Hopefully [they] can earn a few more."

Academy graduate, Brennan Johnson is yet to work under Cooper after he has been impressing since receiving a call-up to represent the first-team.

The Forest boss added: "I've not worked with Brennan but I know him. It's natural to pick up with them boys."
