Steve Cooper drops big Joe Rodon transfer update amid Man United and Man City links

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper insists there has been no interest from Manchester United in star defender Joe Rodon.

The centre-back has been heavily-linked with United, with Wales boss Ryan Giggs believed to have even recommended the centre-back to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rodon's future at SA1 has been the subject of increasing speculation over the last few weeks, having established himself as a shining light in Swansea's first team since his breakthrough in 2018.

His performances haven't gone unnoticed, with Manchester City also mentioned as a potential suitor, but Cooper insists there has not yet been any kind of approach from anyone at this stage.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the Swans boss said: "Joe is an outstanding player and just as good a person as well.

"But there hasn't been any interest in him at the moment. I know it's a talking point and someone tells me there's been some stuff in the papers, but there's absolutely nothing official going on.

"On that front, not just with Joe, but with the whole market, it's going to be interesting to see how that plays out.

"I don't think there's going to be loads of players bought for with fees.

"It may be different in the Premier League and with Premier League money, but certainly at our level."

Swansea are clearly keen to hang on to the 22-year old, but the departures of Daniel James and Oli McBurnie last summer suggest the Swans are a club willing to do business for the right bid.

But while the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is likely to place further strain on Swansea's ever-tightening purse strings, Cooper is adamant that the club won't be forced into selling anyone for the wrong price.

"I don't think the chairman will be selling anyone on the cheap because we've got a good few assets at the club," he added.

"We don't want to lose them - I don't anyway."
