Steve Clarke will miss Rangers game after being handed two-match ban

Steve Clarke has been handed an immediate two-match ban after comments about referee Steven McLean.

The whistler sent off three of the Kilmarnock boss' side last month, and Clarke was unhappy.

He has also been given a further suspended one match ban until 31 December 2019.

The Kilmarnock manager had claimed Steven McLean should never referee another game involving his club after the 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen.

Clarke was at Hampden for a hearing that lasted four hours before being handed the ban.

Kilmarnock chief Billy Bowie set to hold talks with 'unsettled' Steve Clarke over Kilmarnock future

Killie had three players sent off and Clarke insisted McLean was overcompensating for the fact his dad was a Kilmarnock legend.

Stuart McLean played more than 500 games for the club over 16 years and Clarke felt it had an impact on his son.

Clarke had said: "Since I've been here, he's always seemed to struggle with Kilmarnock games.

"Maybe, or definitely, that's because his father was a player here for so many years. Whether he feels the pressure of that, it seems to affect his performance.

"I have mentioned privately that maybe Steven shouldn't referee Kilmarnock games just to take that burden, that extra pressure, off him. Now I'm saying it publicly.

"I think it would be better for Steven as a referee and for Kilmarnock as club."
