Steve Clarke urged to call up John Souttar for Euro 2020 by his brother Harry

Steve Clarke should name Hearts star John Souttar in his Scotland Euro 2020 squad this summer - according to his Australian international brother Harry.

The 24-year-old Jambos centre-back is back to full fitness after a year out through injury, but seems unlikely to be included in the 26-man squad for the Finals given the last of his three senior caps came in 2018 when he was sent off against Israel.

However, Stoke City defender Harry, who opted to play for Australia despite being capped for Scotland at youth level, reckons Clarke should seriously consider calling up his brother.

He said: "I was absolutely delighted Scotland qualified. I’ve not seen Scotland in a major tournament. My generation, me and all my pals, we’ve not seen Scotland in a major tournament since we’ve been alive.

"I’m excited for my brother as well. Hopefully, he gets back from injury and into the squad, it’s a big moment for him. All my dad’s side of my family and most of mum’s side as well are all Scottish and they’re all pleased."

Souttar has been linked with a move to the English Premier League this summer, with Burnley, West Ham, Wolves and Crystal Palace reportedly keen.

And Australia manager Graham Arnold reckons it's just a matter of time before the ex-Dundee United stopper ends up in English football's top flight.

Arnold said: "I don’t want to compare him with anyone but if I look at some of the centre-backs in the Premier League, Harry Souttar is only 22. He’s definitely going to be in the Premier League and that’s great for us.

"Playing in the Championship starting line-up every week, you can just see that he belongs more and more. It’s been great for his development.

"He reads the game so well for a defender - yes, he’s tall obviously, but he’s quick, he’s light on his feet and very good on the ball. He’s doing great."
