Steve Clarke in Billy Gilmour Scotland injury update as boss provides 'can't wait' Euro 2020 verdict

Scotland manager Steve Clarke revealed he only took Billy Gilmour off as a precaution after he was flattened by Luxembourg's Olivier Thill.

The Chelsea youngster came on for the second half of the final Euro 2020 warm-up game and was impressing before being on the wrong end of the crude challenge.

The midfielder looked shaken and had to be taken off as a concussion risk, but the manager insists there are no long terms fitness fears.

Clarke told Sky Sports: "We took him off as a precaution, the medics will assess him but he seemed fine when he was off the pitch.

"He was disappointed to be off but (we'll be) ultra-cautious and the medics will assess him.

"But everything looks OK for now."

Rangers kid Nathan Patterson was handed a debut in the second half and Clarke was impressed with the right-back's display.

Quizzed on what the defender had brought to the team he replied: "He gave me exactly what I expected.

"I've seen the boy in training up close this last 10 days and he's done well in training and deserved his chance.

"It's been good to get caps into David Turnbull, Nathan Patterson and Billy Gilmour.

"They can be a big part of the future for Scotland so it was good to get them all on the pitch and I think they've all shown that they can be competitive within this squad - which is what want."

And Clarke admits that he's been given a selection headache by the new faces in his squad after some great work at their Spanish training base.

He said: "The decisions are there, all the boys that have played for me have done well, it's been a really good training camp.

"The standard has been good, the work we've put into the players has been good and you'll hopefully see the benefit of that in the tournament.

"But, listen: we can't wait now.

"We'll have a couple of days with the family then into camp ready for the tournament."
